Skeet Shooting
Skeet shooting is a popular shotgun sport that involves shooting at clay targets, or “clays,” that are launched into the air from two fixed stations. The shooter stands in a designated area between the two stations and must hit the clays as they soar through the air.
Skeet shooting consists of shooting at a total of 25 targets, which are launched in a specific sequence. The targets are launched from two different stations, known as the high house and the low house, and are thrown in various directions and angles. The shooter must shoot at eight targets from the high house, eight targets from the low house, and the remaining nine targets are shot from a combination of the two houses. The shooter must complete the course twice for a total of 50 targets.
Skeet shooting requires a great deal of expertise, as the targets are launched at varying speeds and angles, making it challenging to hit them consistently. To be successful at skeet shooting, shooters must have excellent hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes, and the ability to judge the trajectory of the clay targets.
There are a variety of shotguns and ammunition that can be used for skeet shooting, but most shooters use 12-gauge shotguns with a variety of choke tubes to control the spread of the shot. Safety is also a critical component of skeet shooting at the Long Island Shooting Range At Brookhaven, and all participants must follow strict safety protocols to ensure that accidents are avoided.
